50 Ways to Kill Your Brother
&
The Fire Service Perfect Storm
The National Fire Fighter Near Miss Reporting System 2007 Annual Report listed issues with situation awareness as the leading contributing factor to fire fighter near miss events.
The National Institute of Occupational Safety & Health (NIOSH) has identified issues with situation awareness as contributing to dozens of fire fighter deaths at structure fires.
Now that we know there's a problem with fireground situation awareness, we need to do something about it!
This program will focus on the challenges faced by commanders who make decisions under stress. You will understand why commanders struggle to gather cues and clues at high stress, complex emergency scenes. Why it's not always easy to make sense of what is happening, and it is so difficult to predict the future events at complex incident scenes.
The program will review the challenges and benefits of various decision-making models and the role that situation awareness plays in helping commanders make good decisions and keep firefighters safe.

Whether you are a novice commander or
an expert commander, this is a
must see program!
"The motivation behind developing this program is I am sick of reading near-miss and line-of-duty death reports where firefighter casualty events could be avoided.
I have studied the best practices of many high-stress, high-consequence decision making environments including pilots, battleground commanders, surgical teams, submarine commanders, and many more.
You cannot afford to NOT know this stuff! Please help in my quest to stop firefighter injuries and fatalities at emergency scenes!"

Note: The title for this program is a play on words from the hit Paul Simon song Fifty Ways to Leave Your Lover. The title is not intended to display any form of gender bias or to portray the program as one designed or intended only for the benefit of male firefighters.
